Among the brands and designers that we had the pleasure of meeting during the London Design Festival 2013 there was the Italian Matteo Gerbi, a talented architect and designer, but most of all a humble person with clear ideas who currently lives and works in London, that thanks to his previous experiences (ten years up and down Europe) was able to deepen styles and learn techniques and design methods that allowed him to show up for the second consecutive year at 100%Design exhibition.
This year, among the projects on display, the latest one undoubtedly stood out, STEM, the wooden coat stand, produced entirely in England by the skilled hands of local artisans. A piece of furniture with a contemporary appeal, that mixes the warm charm of craftsmanship and the material which is made of, with the simplicity and freshness of the essential lines. A sculptural solution that will fit into any space, which, as the designer told us, was born from a childhood memory that brings him back in the countryside of a traditional Italy, among farmers and farmlands, where he used to watch with curiosity the typical peasant habit of hanging jackets and hats on the long handles of the hoes. A stable and robust hanger consisting of a cubic base perforated in the upper part, in which are inserted eight circular beech wood pegs, elements distinguished by different heights combined with a precise arrangement, and a top colored and highlighted with the same shade of the base, details not only aesthetic but essential to the functionality of the structure, the result of studies to improve the usability of the product.
Before ending, I invite you also to see and to deepen his other two projects: “Ray Shelf“, the innovative modular system of wall shelving, a must-have for every respectable interior decorator and interior designer, and the “Monolitico” collection, a series of wall shelves and coat racks characterized by an essential and elegant design, made with a sustainable philosophy that avoids waste, through the use of a single sheet of metal bent or curved.
