I love the vintage, heirloom style of these jewllery pieces by Lorelei Designs. Each piece is a handmade original design and often genuine vintage elements scoured in antique shops or flea markets are upcycled and incorporated into the jewllery. I also like the range and scope of the pieces, which can channel anything from 1920s Art Nouveau or Art Deco glamour to gothic, steampunk or bohemian whimsy. The ornate nature of the pieces reminds me of hunting for unusual treasures among dusty tapestries or silver spoons at the Sablon market in Belgium or playing dress-up as a child with my grandmother’s costume jewllery. Speaking of grandmothers, Laurie says that she aquired her love of crafting and creating as a child from her great-grandmother and it is a passion she has kept up for more than twenty years. Some of her favourite materials include old pocket watch mechanisms, antique keys, copper, filigree, Czech glass and silver which she painstakingly transforms into these beautiful statement pieces.
