SplinterBike

Although it is scary to write about a subject outside your comfort zone, it can also be quite rewarding. I just put together a comprehensive feature about bicycles, and my research took forever because I kept finding cool stuff every day. I dedicated an entire category to wooden bikes, which I know is not a new thing, but I find really impressive. And that’s how I came across SplinterBike, made entirely (I mean, entirely – even the wheels) of wood. No screws or bolts, just wood and glue. Wait! there’s more: SplinterBike achieved a new speed record for this bike category, 18.11 kph (11.25 mph). Michael Thompson is the name behind this amazing product, which has also impressed the Victoria & Albert Museum: SplinterBike is being exhibited at one of the museum’s current shows, Power of Making.
