The typewriter is an outdated object: I can hardly remember that my parents had one and for the new generations is definitely an antique. I associate it mostly to images seen in movies, with 50′s secretaries intent to strike the keys frantically …
Keira Rathbone isn’t a secretary and in the 50′s wasn’t even born yet, but she can use the typewriter in a extraordinary way: she creates portraits of faces and landscapes using just the letters of the machine as if they were brush strokes. Thanks to an incredible accuracy and patience, her works have the same details as those drawn by hand: shadows, chiaroscuro, facial expressions, … Go visit her site (after the photos) to discover the other incredible works of this talented and original artist.
