Urban Dolls

Beauty, more or less natural, is the obsession of modern society. Sculped faces, full lips, prominent cheekbones, are so desired to bring people to an excessive and indiscriminate use of plastic surgery, hoping to create what nature hasn’t given them, or to win the enduring challenge between the humans and the passing time. Forgive the cynical tone, but I won’t deny my disapproval for this attitude. For this reasond, I introduce “Urban Dolls,” the provocative work of designer Vilma Vaiciule. A series of removable facial prosthetics, objects that resemble torture machines, able to emphasize facial parts, and that once worn allow temporary modification of the characteristics of the face, without resorting to surgery.
