The chair that is not

The chair that is not

The development of “Chairless” began observing Ayoreo Indian tribe in northern Paraguay, which always use a seat belt that kind of wraps and tighten the legs and back. “Chairless” is a sturdy fabric strap that allows a relaxed sitting without a chair or backrest. So light and compact you can take it with you wherever you go: beach, mountain, at a concert or a picnic in the park. This tool offers many sitting solutions: the huge waitings we have to face in our life will never be the same. Or better, will always be the same but at least more comfortable. Chairless is available in four different colors: anthracite/fuchsia, fuchsia/dark lime, dark lime/fuchsia and anthracite/dark lime. “Chairless” can be purchased directly on the design-museum.com from 19.90 Euros. Part of the proceeds from the sale of “Chairless” is donated to support the “Foundation for Paraguayan Indian Communities“, an organization dedicated to ensuring the land as a means of subsistence for the indigenous people of Paraguay.

Designer: Alejandro Aravena in collaboration with Vitra.
