“DESIGN IN GABBIA” (design in a cage) is a socio-educational initiative for people held in prisons, financed by the Veneto Region for the year 2010 and takes place inside the male penitentiary of Santa Maria Maggiore in Venice.
The project is the design and creation, together with the prisoners, of a line of objects/accessories using the machinery already present in laboratories inside the prison. The objects/accessories made with the prisoners during the first phase of “DESIGN IN GABBIA” were: a multipurpose apron, a shopping bag, an ottoman, a multipurpose wall panel with related accessories. The uniqueness of the projects is being realized with a 100% cotton fabric, velcro strips with interchangeable accessories, sold separately. The project is born from an idea of Anthony Knight, IMEGADITO studio and Raffaella Brunzin in collaboration with the social cooperative “Rio terĂ  dei pensieri”.
