YKRA is a young Hungarian lifestyle brand, specializing in backpacking and accessories. These vivid coloured backpacks emerged from an interesting cultural scene. The designer, Balázs Lakatos, was influenced by a lot of travelling and different cultures. The inspiration for the vivid color use comes from multiple sources, mainly 1970’s sports fashion, and the primary colors of the Bauhaus movement, while the designs are mostly inspired by the climbing, hiking and skiing fashion of the East-Central European socialist bloc, as well as early skateboard, surf and Bmx culture. This exciting and diverse cultural mix, results in a very unique and attractive brand, which aims to become a contemporary fashion ambassador for Hungary, produced locally, worn worldwide.
YKRA’s main product is the Matra Mini backpack. The name Matra is actually the name of a beautiful chain of mountains in Northern Hungary. The handcrafted backpack features traditional materials in the form of cotton duck canvas, with vegetable tanned cow leather, copper rustproof rivets and buckles, and natural felt lining for the straps. The aim is to use the same excellent quality materials and craftsmanship as traditional mountaineering backpacks, in order to make a long lasting, durable product. If you visit Budapest, you will see, that the influences, that formed the YKRA products are very lively here.
