Veska Abad Paper Sculpture

Have a look at the new work of artist Veska Abad who creates wonderful sculptural forms out of paper; experimenting with textures, folds, pleats and twists to make the material transform into surreal and decorative objects. While I am generally attracted to work that is dark and melancholy, in this instance I love the fact that Veska’s work bursts with colour, playfulness and fun. Veska says that she is an animator and illustrator who rediscovered the joy of creating with her hands rather than computer wizardry. I admire the way that Veska’s painstaking paper sculptures and book art can look like anything from pop art lips to a sea urchin, a tree or a peacock tail.
