Monopol was a really famous company in Luxemborg. Some years ago it went bankrupt and most of its nine stores (situated all over in the country) were restored and refurbished as new shops or razed down to make spaces for new construction. After two years left abandoned, the Differdange’s store (a little town in Luxembourg) will now be demolished. But this summer, before the demolition, the most famous Luxembourgish street artist, Sumo, organized an event in collaboration with other artists from Berlin, Luxembourg and Switzerland, where they completely repainted the whole building. Inside they organized expositions, hosted pop-up stores and they even added a little skate park. Each single artist took a section of the outside walls and started creating art. The starting colors available were bright and pastel which are typical of Disney’s animated pictures. So all the artists started to imagine a creepy, weird and colorful version of Disney’s world. Last week the docu-film about the experience came out. The artists explain their works in three different languages (French, English and German, the most spoken languages in Luxembourg). The documentary is recommended for the images and the fascinating idea of giving life once again to an abandoned place, even if just for one week.
