Air pollution is a thing that exists, but we can’t see it. Susan Ngo and Nien Lam, two students from New York University, have created “Warning Signs”: two prototypes of garments that can identify it.
In detail, it’s two sweaters, one with a human heart and one with a pair of lungs, traversed by veins, that are actually sensors able to detect carbon monoxide in the air. When carbon monoxide is detected, whether is exhaust gas or cigarette smoke, the veins turn blue.
The two students said with this project they would launch a subtle message on air pollution, through a medium that affects most people: style.
Nien and Susan are trying to make these garments on large scale: we’ll keep an eye on them …
