I thought for a long time to review this young photographer, Alberto Grasso, and what better opportunity if not an exhibition, entitled “The two pedals: pictures of the rediscovery of mean of transportation”?
The pictures that the artist has chosen all have as subject, as you might guess, the bicycle. Alberto, who lives in Turin, said he watched the bikes that invade this city and that he had been kidnapped, to have bought one and have noticed that you can see the city from another angle, it acquires charm. Looking at his photos I think about how I have never noticed the beauty of the details of a bicycle, I can almost smell the homes of my grandparents, be transported back in time. This young boy, with his sensitivity, managed to make appealing an object that you don’t think in those terms, with the right angle and resolution a simple bike acquires multiple facets.
I saw Alberto write a phrase that encapsulates the spirit and intent of this exhibition: “Everytime I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the human race” (HG Wells).
The other photos that he realizes are different from those of the exhibition. They are shots of everyday life, which often have as background the city of Turin. The quality of this photographer lies in the search for simplicity, without capturing surreal situations, giving more meaning to normality.
