Alexander Koutny is a South African-born designer, who moved to the UK to study fashion at Central Saint Martins in London. He currently lives and works in the international fashion capital, New York, but recently has returned to his country, in Johannesburg, where he presented his spring/summer 2012 collection, Mass/Luminosity. An almost entirely black collection, which differs totally from the trends for next season, not only for the use of color, or better, for the choice of deleting it, but also for the clothes he presented, ranging from sculptural jackets, to long and asymmetric dresses, to the garments decorated with fur, to the use leather. An unusual collection but with a very strong impact, which demonstrates the versatility and talent of a designer who has already become a reference name for African fashion.
