Imagine a futuristic world where the human race undergoes a mutation necessary for its survival: breathing underwater. This isn’t the beginning of a science fiction novel, but the necessary introduction to “Breathtakers”, the spring/summer 2012 collection that fashion designer Feyrouz Ashoura presented in June this year as the final project for Esmod school in Paris. A collection that, of course, takes inspiration by sea creatures, emphasizing, with sculptural drapes, anatomical elements provided to humans by the animal world, creating gills, highlighting spines and rib cages. More than clothes, real costumes, works of wearable art. Surely a grim and not reassuring preamble, but the result is impressive and magnificent.
